Three national players accept
FIU soccer scholarship offers
IU
Head Coach Karl Kremser announced Thursday that his Golden
Panther mens soccer program had received national letters
of intent from high school seniors Landy Mattison, Carron
Williams and Allen Handy, all three of whom possess
national credentials.
Mattison is a 5-10, 185-pound forward from Franklin, Tenn.
who is an all-state player and a member of the under-18 U.S.
National Team. Mattison is the first national team player ever
to sign on with the Golden Panthers.
Williams, another forward, competes with the Trinidads
under-17 and under-20 National Soccer & Track and Field Teams.
Williams, from Baratario, Trinidad, also is expected to run with
the FIU track and field team and has a 10.4 second personal-best
time in the100-meter dash and anchors Trinidads 4x100-meter
relay teams.
Handy is a 6-2, 160-pound midfielder/defender from Austin,
Tex. who has been a three-year member of the Region III Olympic
Development Program and under-18 National Team pool.
"All three of these young men should make immediate impacts
on our team," said Kremser. "Mattison should add a
great deal of punch up front. Williams has the type of speed
that will really stretch the defense. Handy has good size and
has shown continued improvement."
Last years FIU mens soccer team finished with
an 11-7-1 record which included a 3-2 overtime win over No. 4-ranked
UAB and the first-ever championship of the newly-formed Atlantic
Soccer Conference. |
