FIU falls in season finale to No. 19 South Carolina, 5-4, in double overtime

obert Rosenberg scored on unassisted header from five yards away at 106:46 and the No. 19 Gamecocks beat FIU (10-7-0), 5-4, in a non-conference match played in Miami.

The win spoiled a three-goal performance by FIU’s Matias Asorey.

It was a game of catch up all night long for the Golden Panthers who saw South Carolina jump out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Ryan Daley and Jordan Quinn. FIU cut the Gamecock lead in half when Asorey scored his sixth goal of the season on a penalty kick at 27:52, then the Golden Panthers tied the score on a Ben Tocco goal at 38:48.

Quinn put USC back on top at 62:00 on an unassisted goal after it had deflected off FIU goalkeeper Roy Rosenberg. But Asorey tied the score again on a 25-yard shot that bounced over a diving USC goalkeeper Michael Bachmeyer at 77:47.

USC (12-4-2) kept up the offensive pressure with 27 shots on the night and took the lead again, 4-3, on an unassisted goal from short range by Chris Herron at 78:21. Back came the Golden Panthers and Asorey who hit his second penalty kick of the evening at 79:58 and forcing the match into overtime
