Asorey leades FIU to 3-1 ASC victory over Adelphi

atias Asorey's two goals helped FIU even its season record to 5-5-0 and improve in the Atlantic Soccer Conference to 2-1, with a 3-1 road victory over Adelphi University in Garden City, N.Y.

The loss snapped a three-game Adelphi win streak, dropping the Panthers to 3-6-1, 2-2 in league play.

Asorey put the Golden Panthers up 1-0 when he scored at 11:30 on a shot that ricocheted off the Adelphi crossbar and in for the goal. Less than three minutes later, he became the first FIU player this season with a multiple-goal match when he scored unassisted from 10 yards away.

After Adelphi’s Mariusz Kulesza cut the lead in half with a goal to the left corner of the net at 38:57 that beat FIU goalkeeper Roy Rosenberg, the Golden Panthers Russell Vreeland sealed the victory with his first goal of the season with 2:30 minutes remaining before intermission.

Rosenberg, who earned his fifth victory of the season in goal, tallied nine saves as Adelphi out shot FIU 16-11 on the day.

Saturday was the last road match of the season for the Golden Panthers who play their final seven at home. Next Friday, Oct. 19, the team returns to the University Park soccer field and hosts league foe Philadelphia University in a 7:30 p.m. contest.
