FIU loses another close
game on the road, 77-70
ames
Moore continued to be a thorn in the side of FIU, scoring a game-high
24 points, to lead New Mexico State over the Golden Panthers,
77-70, in Las Cruces, NM. Moore scored a game-high 22 points
last season in the win over FIU.
Rodrigo Viegas led FIU with 22 points and Taurance
Johnson added 14. Chris Carter grabbed eight rebounds
in the loss.
FIU (10-15, 4-7 Sun Belt) led at the half 42-39 and was within
a point at 66-65 at the 2:50 mark in the second. The Aggies (16-8,
9-3 SBC) Eric Channing scored three of his 13 points to
give them a four-point lead.
FIU's Johnson then put up a three-pointer, that was off the
mark and they had to foul Moore on the way back. Moore put in
both free throws, followed by another three-point miss by Viegas.
Channing came back to hit a jumper to take an eight-point
lead with 44-seconds left and stop any hope of an FIU win.
"I was proud the way we hung in there," said head
coach Donnie Marsh. "But we took some shots from
three-point range we didn't need to and we need to learn from
this."
The Golden Panthers were outscored 38-28 in the second half
and shot 38-percent (10-28) from the floor.
The first half was a different story as FIU shot 63-percent
(17-27), but couldn't hold down NMSU, either, at 56-percent (14-25).
FIU will now head home for senior night against Louisiana-Lafayette
at Golden Panther Arena at 7:30 p.m. |
