August 16: Football ends practice week with Saturday double session
One week down for fall practice and FIU head coach Don Strock rewarded his Golden Panthers football team by putting them through their first two-a-day drills in full pads, Saturday at FIU Stadium. Following the workouts, Strock seemed pleased with what he saw, but understands his young team still has a long way to go.

August 15: First day in full pads results in spirited FIU Football practice
It was a spirited two-hour practice session Friday at FIU Stadium as the Golden Panthers football team strapped on full gear for the first time this fall. Oklahoma drills spiced up the workout and coaches concentrated a large part of the team sessions on short yardage and goal line formations, all going at full speed.

The FIU Football team continued preparations for its 2003 regular season, Tuesday morning with a two-hour workout in shorts and shells at the FIU Stadium. Expanding the playbook, head coach Don Strock and his staff stressed the 3-4 defense this morning, a formation they first dabbled with last spring.

August 11: FIU Football begins 2003 preparations with first fall practice
The FIU Football team started preparations for the 2003 season, Monday with nearly 90 players participating in a 90-minute workout dressed in shorts and shells.After missing spring drills because of left shoulder surgery, quarterback Jamie Burke took snaps with the first team while running backs Diamos Demerritt and Tori Robinson seemed nearly 100 percent after injuries last fall.

August 1: Phil Schoen named Football radio play-by-play voice
Long-time network play-by-play announcer Phil Schoen (pronounced SHANE) has been named as the new FIU football play-by-play voice for the 2003 season. Schoen replaces Bill Zimpfer who decided to forgo the weekly commute from his home in Pennsylvania, in order to spend more time with family

April 21: WTVJ, NBC 6 to locally televise FIU Football game vs. Holy Cross
Florida International University Athletics and WTVJ-TV in Miami announced today that NBC 6 has agreed to a live telecast of the Golden Panthers 2003 Homecoming football game against Holy Cross on Saturday, Oct. 26. Kickoff time for this first ever, over-the-air live FIU football contest is set for 10:00 a.m.

April 12: Plenty of offense and big play defense highlights Blue/Gold Scrimmage
Fans at Saturday's FIU Blue/Gold Scrimmage were treated to an extended exhibition of the young Golden Panthers team. Coming in, head coach Don Strock promised 64 scrimmage plays. But before it was over, and the defense had come away with an 18-16 victory, Strock let his troops go for more than 90 plays that included three field goals, one for 53 yards, and more than 400 yards of offense.

April 9: Tony Nathan’s skills as a coach and teacher should pay dividends for young FIU running backs
FIU Football’s newest assistant coach in charge of running backs, Tony Nathan, knows he is in for a challenge. The 46-year old Nathan, who coached 14 seasons in the NFL with the Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, realizes there is a big difference between the professional ranks and the young Golden Panthers he’s trying to mold.

Back to practice following the first scrimmage of the spring last Saturday, and FIU head coach Don Strock put his Golden Panthers through a physical, 90-minute workout in full pads at FIU Stadium under sunny and humid skies.

April 5: Defense comes away with a 24-21 spring scrimmage win
It was the FIU offense that shined in the first half of the Golden Panthers first spring football scrimmage Saturday morning at FIU Stadium. But it was all defense in the second half and in the end, the defensive side came away with a 24-21 victory in a 69-play exhibition.

April 4: Golden Panthers prep for Saturday’s first Football Scrimmage
Dressed in shorts and shells under mostly sunny skies, the FIU football team tuned up for its first intra-squad scrimmage scheduled for Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. at FIU Stadium on the University Park campus.After a brief team period that included seven-on-seven, 11-on-11, punts and extra points, head coach Don Strock put his troops through a simulated mini-scrimmage, complete with a pair of 35-yard field goals.

April 3: Strock gets a kick out of Moss as FIU continues spring practice
One area of improvement to be sought this coming football season will be the field goal game. Last year, the Golden Panthers converted just three-of-nine field goal attempts and made 24-of-31 extra points. To help rectify the situation, head coach Don Strock went out and signed a high school place kicker. But Strock believes the solution could already be in camp with the foot of sophomore returnee Adam Moss.

April 2: FIU Football practice looks ahead to Saturday scrimmage
The FIU Football team practiced for 90 minutes Wednesday under mostly sunny but breezy skies at FIU Stadium. The Golden Panthers worked out in full pads today, and will again tomorrow, in preparation for Saturday’s scrimmage, the first of two that will be played at FIU Stadium on the University Park campus.

Something old and something new was the tone for Friday's FIU Football practice in full pads. Head Coach Don Strock reintroduced his players to the one-back offense during the 90-minute session, and for the first time to date, ran plays from scrimmage using a shotgun formation.

FIU today announced its 2003 football schedule, an ambitious 12-game slate that includes a pair of Division I-A schools and four nationally-ranked I-AA programs, and features six hime contests, two of which will be televised statewide by Sunshine Network.

March 25: FIU Football coaches expecting good things from redshirt QB Josh Padrick
Redshirt freshman Josh Padrick was always an outstanding athlete. He was an All-Space Coast Conference quarterback at Merritt Island High School who threw for over 1,300 yards as a senior and ran for another 486. This spring, Padrick will be given every opportunity to climb the depth chart.

FIU head football coach Don Strock today unveiled the Golden Panthers third-ever recruiting class consisting of 10 high school seniors who signed national letters of intent a one transfer. He also introduced former Miami Dolphin Tony Nathan who has accepted the job of running backs coach.
