2002: Left-hander
whose 23 appearances ranked second on the staff…didn’t
allow a run for the first 17 innings he pitched…picked up
a win in his first appearance of the year vs. Florida A&M (2/9),
throwing two innings of one-hit ball…recorded a pair of saves,
against Kansas State (2/24) and Iona (3/11)…three starts in
mid-April featured his best outing of the year, a seven-inning,
seven-strikeout, three-hit performance in a 4-0 win vs. Arkansas-Little
Rock (4/20)…probably his most important outing came in the
Sun Belt Conference Championship against New Orleans (5/24) when
he pitched seven innings in relief and earned the win in an 8-6
come-from-behind victory…hurled 1.1 innings of two-hit, shutout
ball against Bethune-Cookman (2/20), then two days later tossed
two innings, allowing no runs on one hit vs. Miami (2/22)…didn’t
allow a run and struck out five in three innings of work vs. Notre
Dame (3/2)…recorded three strikeouts for every walk issued.
Prior to FIU: Transferred
from Long Beach City College where was awarded the Joe Hicks Memorial
Scholarship…given the Coach’s Award in 1999 at Lakewood
High School…recruited by Loyola Marymount, BYU, Pacific and
Long Beach State.
