2002: Appeared in only 11 games due to injury, and none after March 26…made all three starts in the month of March, earning wins in all three…in his first starting assignment, gave up two hits, struck out nine, and allowed no runs in 6.1 innings against Lehigh (3/5)…also went six innings against Iona (3/11), and six against Rider (3/16), earning wins both times…struck out ten in the Rider game, establishing a career high…tied for the team lead with four saves, earning saves against Florida A&M (2/9), St. Francis (2/15), New Mexico State (3/23) and Ohio State (3/26).

2001: Appeared in 16 games, starting three…made his first career start against crosstown rival Miami (2/7) pitching 4.1 innings and allowing one earned run in the 4-3 loss…recorded his first career win pitching one inning of relief against Villanova (3/6)…went six innings versus Bradley (3/20) in the 14-2 win with a season-high five strikeouts and only allowed two hits.

Prior to FIU: Played senior year in high school for coach Tom Duffin at Monsignor Pace…member of state champion Westminster Christian in 1998.

Personal: Twin brother plays baseball for Georgetown…cousin of Carlos Fernandez who plays on the FIU men's basketball team...son of John Gazitua and Blanca Casrera…born December 16, 1981…Accounting major.
