| 2002: Was expected
to be one of the team’s top starting pitchers, but injuries
hindered his progress…made only 11 appearances and none from
Feb. 23 to Apr. 19 after suffering a sprained ligament in his pitching
elbow…struck out 47 batters in 34 innings of work (12.44 per
nine innings), including a career-high 11 in a five-inning start
and victory over Miami (2/6)…gave up only one hit and an unearned
run in that outing, his first victory of the season…allowed
only four earned runs and led the staff with a 1.19 ERA during the
regular season…opposing hitters batted just .185 against him…tied
for the team lead with four saves earned over four consecutive appearances
from May 1-17, two of those coming against NCAA Tourney invitees
Bethune-Cookman (5/1) and Florida Atlantic (5/7)…picked up
a win vs. New Orleans in the opening game of the Sun Belt Conference
Championships (5/22), his first start in three months…went
six innings, allowing three hits and only one run with eight strikeouts.
2001: Made his first
collegiate start against Bethune-Cookman (1/27) allowing two earned
runs in five innings with three strikeouts for his first win in
the 17-3 victory…pitched a season-high six innings with eight
strikeouts against Iona (3/13)…threw 11 games in relief with
his biggest outing coming against USC in the NCAA Super Regional
in Los Angeles pitching 2.1 innings allowing no runs and only one
hit while striking out two…earned his first career save working
one inning of relief against Yale (3/8)…finished the year
third on the squad with a 3.00 ERA and fifth with 37 strikeouts.
Prior to FIU: Lettered
in three sports in high school: baseball, football, and basketball…as
a senior, named first-team all-state and Player of the Year…selected
Crown All-Star MVP Pitcher at Camden Yards June 11, 2000…posted
a 15-2 record and 1.27 ERA in 99 1/3 IP as a senior.
Personal: Hobbies
include fishing and snow-skiing…brother Jeff Banks played
four years at Towson University…son of Charles Jr. and Judith
Banks…born July 18, 1982…Sports Management major.
