DeCarlo, Duenas and Eldred
selected to the All-South Central Region First Team

Derek DeCarlo, catcher Tommy Duenas and first baseman
Brad Eldred were named to the first team All-South Central
Region as selected by the Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches
Association.
FIU had the most selections of any team in the region. All
three now become eligible for All-America status, which will
be announced tonight during the NCAA Home Run Challenge.
DeCarlo was one of three starting pitchers named to the team.
The freshman finished the year with an 11-0 record and 3.53 ERA.
Duenas and Eldred were the only selections to the their respective
positions. Duenas hit .387, with 12 home runs and 57 RBI. The
junior went in the 16th round to the Anaheim Angels in the Major
League Baseball draft.
Eldred finished second in the nation with a Sun Belt Conference
and school record 29 home runs. Eldred was the first pick in
the sixth round by the Pittsburgh Pirates. The senior is now
getting ready for the NCAA Home Run Challenge, set for 9:00 p.m.
tonight and televised nationally on ESPN2. |
