Golden Panthers shutout Fairfield, 11-0

lorida International (11-4) got back on the winning track shutting out Fairfield (2-1) 11-0 Monday evening. Derek DeCarlo (3-0) and Alan Clark combined on the five-hit shutout. DeCarlo pitched seven innings allowing only the five hits while striking out 12. Junior Tommy Duenas and senior Alex Ansoleaga continued their hot hitting as Duenas extended his hitting streak with a 3-4 performance with three RBI.

In the first Ansoleaga led off with a single and scored on Hector Nunez' infield single to give FIU the early 1-0 lead. Tommy Duenas continued his seven-game hitting streak with a two-run double to right center scoring Nunez and Daniel Bustamante.

In the second FIU added their fourth run as Ansoleaga singled and scored on Nunez' groundout to second.

In the bottom of the third Duenas collected his third RBI of the game when he hit a RBI single scoring Bernie Gonzalez who reached earlier on a triple. Dennis Diaz knocked in Duenas with a RBI single to right field to give the Golden Panthers the 6-0 lead. Ansoleaga continued the offensive surge with a two-run double scoring Hector Penate and Diaz increasing the lead to 8-0.

In the fourth Penate singled in Bustamante and Adam Summerell added a RBI single bringing in Duenas increasing FIU's 10-0 lead.

Pinch hitter Alex Suarez hit a RBI triple in the fifth scoring Bustamante who reached base on a single to give FIU the 11-0 lead.

The Golden Panthers will return to action tomorrow night as they host Lehigh at University Park at 7:00pm.
