Golden Panthers once again rout St. Francis
17-5
or the second consecutive game, FIU (7-1) scored more than 17
runs as they defeated St. Francis Sunday afternoon 17-5. It was
the seventh consecutive win for the Golden Panthers. FIU starter
Derek DeCarlo made his first start as a Golden Panther
earning his first win pitching five innings allowing one earned
run while striking out five and walking one. Four players collected
more than two hits led by Tommy Duenas who went 4-5 with
a home run, three runs scored, and a double. Alex Suarez
finished 3-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and two runs scored.
FIU hit a season high six doubles in the game. The Golden Panthers
scored 49 runs in the three-game series against the Terriers.
The Terriers jumped on the board with the first run on a lead
off home run by Jason Iorio. In the bottom of the first
inning the Golden Panthers sent nine batters to the plate. Brad
Eldred hit a two-run double scoring Adam Summerell
and Alex Ansoleaga. Suarez added another two-run double
scoring Bernie Gonzalez and Eldred. Duenas hit the third
double of the inning for FIU scoring Suarez for the 5-1 lead.
In the second FIU scored their sixth run as Gonzalez came
home when the Terrier third baseman Rob Cacchioli bobbled
the ball.
St. Francis rallied with two outs in the third to close the
lead to 6-3. Anthony Esposito hit a RBI double scoring
Anthony Giudice and Joe DeSiena followed with a
RBI single scoring Mike Molinini.
In the third the Golden Panthers scored three more times.
Dean Adams hit a sacrifice fly to right field scoring
Suarez. Summerell followed with a two-run double bringing in
Duenas and Skip Adams to increase the lead to 9-3.
After a Eldred single in the fourth, Hector Nunez hit
a RBI triple to right center. Nunez scored on a Suarez double
for the 11-3 lead for FIU.
In the seventh FIU added three more runs. Skip Aams
hit a RBI double scoring Duenas who reached on a single. Summerell
and Diaz each sacrifice flies.
In the eighth behind Duenas' three-run home run to left field,
his fourth hit of the game, the Golden Panthers opened the lead
to 17-3.
The Terriers scored two runs in the ninth on a Vinny Giacomo
RBI single scoring Vincent Sarrica. Giacomo scored on
a wild pitch to close the lead to 17-5 but Luis Gazitua
got Molinini to end on the game on a groundout.
FIU will travel to Daytona on Wednesday to face Bethune-Cookman
at 3pm. |
