Oaks houses extensive libraries in the fields of Byzantine studies,
pre-Columbian studies, and landscape architecture studies; a photographic
archive of Byzantine art, archaeology, and architecture; a Byzantine
field work archive relating to Dumbarton Oaks projects; a garden drawing
and photographic archive relating to the Dumbarton Oaks Gardens designed
by Beatrix Farrand and Ruth Havey; important collections of Byzantine
and pre-Columbian art; and a rare book collection of manuscripts,
drawings, prints, and books relating to all aspects of garden history.
Dumbarton Oaks offers residential fellowships in three areas: Byzantine
studies, pre-Columbian studies, and studies in landscape architecture.
Junior fellowships (for graduate students working on their doctoral
dissertations) and fellowships (for postdoctoral research and writing)
are normally awarded for the academic year (September–May) or
for a single term; summer fellowships are awarded for six to nine
