I graduated from the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus with a bachelor degree in occupational therapy in 1982. Right after graduating I worked at the Rio Piedras Vocational Rehabilitation Center providing occupational therapy services to individuals with spinal cord injuries.

In 1984  I decided to relocate to Miami and worked as an occupational therapist in a multidisciplinary pain center providing services to individuals with chronic pain. In 1992 I earned a master of science degree in occupational therapy from Florida International University.

After being in the clinic for over a decade I decided to join academia. I started at FIU as a visiting assistant professor and later on became a full time faculty member. I mainly teach courses in the physical disabilities area. While being in academia I embarked in a new endeavor and pursued a doctoral degree in  occupational therapy from Nova Southeastern University in 2002.
