Welcome to my webpage. I am an occupational therapist and a faculty member in the occupational therapy department at Florida International University. For those of you who are not familiar with occupational therapy, I would like to share the following information that I once saw in a poster… Occupational Therapists… Dedicate themselves to assisting people of all ages to achieve independent and productive lives Serve as a vital part in the rehabilitation process for persons with physical, emotional or developmental deficits Assist people with psychological dysfunction to utilize adaptive coping skills Analyze tasks and objectives to prepare treatment Prepare people to return to work and to resume leisure activities Teach adaptive techniques to make the performance of daily activities easier and safer Restore physical capacities through functionally oriented therapeutic activities Recommend assistive equipment to assist people in the performance of activities of daily living Work with persons to regain hand and arm function following an injury Apply the sciences of human occupation, anatomy, cognition, neurodevelopment and social behavior to plan and implement intervention programs Develop functional solutions to increase independence Commit to caring |
