POLICY

This manual contains University policies and procedures for the governance of graduate programs. These policies and procedures are the basic guidelines and minimum requirements for graduate program development, implementation and evaluation. All graduate programs including cooperative and affiliated programs must conform to these guidelines and requirements.

Every academic graduate program must make available a publication that gives details of its policies and procedures and that, at a minimum, addresses the following issues: admission criteria and procedures, the 10% Waiver Policy, advisement policies, program requirements, and graduation requirements.

1.2. DEGREES GRANTED

POLICY

The University awards both masters and doctoral degrees.

Graduate program requirements vary among programs and among students. Masters degree requirements may or may not include a thesis. Successful doctoral work, however, must result in a dissertation that demonstrates the ability of the candidate to conduct original research.

1.3. FLORIDA RESIDENCY

POLICY

For the purpose of assessing registration and tuition fees, a student shall be classified as a "Florida" or "non-Florida" student.
Additional information on Florida residency may be obtained from the Office of Admissions and the Academic Catalog.

1.4. EXCEPTIONS TO POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

POLICY

Exceptions to graduate policies and procedures must be approved by the degree granting program, the appropriate academic dean, the Graduate Dean and the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs. Such exceptions must be reported to the Graduate Council.

1.5. ACADEMIC APPEALS

Students have the right to appeal decisions which affect them academically according to established University policies and
procedures.
