Professor Vaidhyanathan Ramamurthy
Professor, Department of Chemistry
Tulane University

Professor Ramamurthy obtained the Ph.D. Degree in Chemistry in 1974 working with Robert Lui at the University of Hawaii where he studied the fundamental photochemistry of retinal and the fundamental processes responsible for human vision. He was a post-doctoral student at U. Western Ontario (Paul de Mayo ’74-‘75) and Columbia U. (N. Turro, ‘75-‘78). He joined the faculty at the premier Indian Institute of Sciences in Bangalore, India in 1978. In 1988 he returned to the US and joined DuPont in Wilmington, DE until 1994. He joined the faculty at Tulane University in 1994 where he is the Bernard Baus Professor Chemistry. He has published nearly 300 papers and books in the field of organic photochemistry.
