Dr. Avise studies the natural history, ecology, and evolution of
animal populations in nature, primarily through the use of
genetic markers. Topics studied range from micro- to macro-evolutionary,
and include biogeographic reconstruction, phylogeography, analyses
of genetic parentage, mating patterns, geographic population
structure, gene flow, hybridization, introgression, speciation,
systematics, and phylogeny. His interests also include the
relevance of evolutionary biology and genetics to human affairs.
