Astronomy: Members of the astronomy group have interests including the structure and evolution of close-binary systems, VLA radio observations of dwarf galaxies, and multi-frequency observations of quasars and active galactic nuclei. Atomic and Molecular Physics: An experimental group specializing in atomic and molecular interactions, the interactions of atoms and molecules with intense radiation fields, and the development of narrow line width diode lasers system. Biophysics: Experimental studies of temporal processing in the human eye. Theoretical and computational studies of protein folding, protein-protein interactions, and laser effects on biological tissue. Experimental Nuclear Physics: A experimental group exploring the quark and gluon substructure of matter at accelerators including the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. Laser and Optical Physics: An experimental group studying atom optics and quantum optics. Research project include laser cooling and trapping of rubidium atoms, dark-hollow-beam manipulations of cold atoms, and nonlinear optical phenomena manifested by atomic coherence and inerference. Medium Energy and Nuclear Theory: A theoretical group working in weak interactions, nuclear astrophysics, nuclear reactions, and lattice field theory of QCD. Physics
Education Research: The FIU Physics Education Research Group conducts a
coordinated
program of research, curriculum development, and, instruction to
improve the teaching and learning of physics. |
