Translation & Interpretation Program offers Academic Certificates in Translation Studies and Legal Translation/Court Interpreting

The Translation & Interpretation Program at FIU is an internationally recognized training program established in 1980 in response to the growing demand for professional translators and interpreters. It remains the only university-level T&I program in the State of Florida and one of only a few in the United States.

The program offers two Academic Certificates, one in Translation Studies and one in Interpretation. Each is 30 credits or 10 courses, but half of these are core courses valid toward both certificates, which altogether total 15 courses or 45 credits. In addition, credit is given for elective courses taken at other departments and universities. It takes most students one year full-time or two years half-time to finish the program. Students may also take up to five individual courses without commitment or formal admission.

Whether you are looking for a primary or secondary career or simply for an addition to your current skills and résumé, our training can place a horizon of opportunities within your reach. We can help you...

  • Start a career in translation and/or interpretation

  • Add a new dimension to your current occupation

  • Maintain and improve your professional translation / interpretation skills.

There is much demand for translators and interpreters at all levels.

Want to sample or explore the field?

You may take one or as many as five courses without any commitment to join the program.
