Need for environmental regulations and presidential vote plans in Florida

These tables give percentages of potential voters who answered that environemtal regulations are "not too strict" the question "Some people feel that efforts to protect the environment have gone too far, and that there are too many environmental regulations, which unnecessarily hurt business and the economy. Others feel that strict environmental regulations are necessary to save the environment. What do you think -- are current environmental regulations too strict or not?".

Undecided voters are somewhat closer to Gore than Bush voters on this issue. There has been movement among them to a greater pro-regulation position over the past year.

Overall, large majorities take the environment side on this tracking question. It is an issue that probably has helped Gore somewhat, but it has not been an emphasis of his campaign in Florida until recently. The data here indicate there are a number of undecided voters who could be motivated by this issue if they do not vote for Nader.
