These tables give percentages of potential voters who answered "it is appropriate for government to restrict access to abortion" to the question "In general, do you think it is appropriate for state government to make laws restricting access to abortion, or do you think it should not restrict access to abortion?".
Over the past year there has been a slight but probably not significant reduction in the percentage of voters who favor government restrictions on abortion. The major change is a much wider difference between Bush and Gore voters on this issue as compared with a year ago. Voters who feel strongly about this issue probably have long since stopped being among the undecided. This process has probably helped Gore over the year since there are more "pro-choice" voters, but the significance of the issue at the end of the campaign is how much it affects voter turnout on either side.
