Note: the percentages in this comparison were calculated based on a total that includes
"don't know" responses (the 10-year comparison tables given out at the conference were
calculated the same way). The other tables here and in the slides at the conference
were calculated excluding "don't know" answers. For this reason the 2000 poll percentages
in this 10-year table are slightly different from those in the other tables that look
only at the current poll.
To get the exact counts and percents: for the current 2000 poll see
Full frequency tabulations for three samples below. This gives the
percentage based on a total including "don't know" ("percent") and excluding
"don't know" ("valid percent").
