Candidate for President : Mike Waker

president of the Earth Sciences Alumni Association I believe that the first item to accomplish is to determine how big we would like the association to become.  The Alumni would need to determine if they desire lots of social events, affiliation with the FIU Alumni Association, or just maintaining a loose organization that mainly acts to provide information to the Alumni.  Secondly I feel that the web page should be the main focus of the board.  It should contain contact information, news, a list of and access to Alumni publications, and maybe a jobs board.

The Alumni Association should become as big as its members would like, but remain easy for those tasked with keeping it going.  The idea should be to create something that can keep going, but remain flexible as interest wanes or grows over the years so that it does not end up like many of the other geologic organizations in Miami.

Candidate for Vice President : Lynn Yuhr

 As a new organization, I think it would be important to network with members and develop an understanding of their collective vision for the group.  I personally would like to see a stronger alliance built between the academic, government and private sectors of our earth science community at a local and state level.  This alliance should facilitate the sharing of ideas and information that affects us all from a research or applied point of view.
