Estimating Your Cost of Attendance
Your award is based on an ESTIMATED cost of attendance for a nine (9) month academic year
(Fall & Spring). Costs are calculated across the board and not on individual circumstances. The
cost of attendance categories are listed on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as
residing On Campus, Off Campus or with Parent.
Cost of Attendance (COA) components:
Tuition and fees, the cost of room and board (on or off campus), books and supplies, and allowances
for personal and transportation expenses. Costs associated with a disability also can be included
(you must meet with a Financial Aid Administrator).
Expected Family Contribution (EFC):
The formula used to calculate your EFC is established by Congress and used to determine eligibility
for federal student aid. It is determined from the information you provided on the Free Application
for Student Aid (FAFSA). The EFC is used to measure what you and your family can contribute to your
education based on income and assets.
Financial Need:
Financial Need is defined as the difference between your Cost of Attendance and your Expected
Family Contribution (EFC). Your total need-based aid and other assistance combined cannot exceed your financial need.
