Biomedical Waste

FIU activities involving the generation of biomedical waste are subject to regulation by the State of Florida. Biomedical waste is defined as any solid or liquid waste which may present a threat of infection to humans, including the following:

Non-liquid tissue, body parts, blood, blood products, and body fluids from humans and other primates; laboratory and veterinary wastes which contain human disease-causing agents, and discarded sharps

The Biomedical Waste Program offers training, guidelines, and services to ensure the safe handling, storage, and disposal of biomedical waste at FIU.
