Mira Wilkins reports two new publications: "The Experience of Foreign Multinational Enterprise in Japan, 1946-1974" appears in the Journal of Economics and Business Administration, 196:1 (July 2007), pages 23-47, and "Multinational Enterprise in Insurance: an Historical Overview," was published in Peter Borscheid and Robin Pearson, eds., Internationalisation and Globalisation of the Insurance Industry in the 19th and 20th Centuries (Zurich: Swiss Re, 2007), pages 4-26. |
| In September, Mira was an invited guest of the Peterson Institute for International Economics in connection with a Conference held there celebrating the work of Edward M. Graham. On October 24, she was a commentator at a session, sponsored by the FIU Summit of the Americas Center, which hosted the visit of Dr. Marcelo Maria Giugale, Director of Economic Policy and Poverty Reduction Programs for Latin America at World Bank. |

| September 4, 2007. The latest issue (vol. 6 , issue 3) of the Review of Network Economics, is a special issue on "Dynamics, Efficiency and Network Industries" that addresses issues related to the dynamics of firm behavior and efficiency in network industries. The special issue includes seven papers plus a detailed introduction of each paper by the guest editor Jeffrey Bernstein. In addition, one of the papers, "Irreversible Investment, Capital Costs and Productivity Growth: Implications for Telecommunications", was written by Jeff and his co-author Theofanis Mamuneas. |

He also presented this paper earlier at the 13th International Conference on Computing in Economics and Finance held at the University of Montreal June 14-16. |

Jeffrey Bernstein's paper, "X-Factor Updating and Total Factor Productivity Growth: The Case of Peruvian Telecommunications, 1996-2003", [with Juan Hernandez, Jose Maria Rodriguez, and Agustin Ros], which appears in the Journal of Regulatory Economics, volume 30, pp. 316-342 (November 2006), has now been published online. Jeff has also been appointed to the Program Committee of the International Telecommunications Society's Congress to be held June 2008 in Montreal. |
| April 20, 2007. Congratulations to Michelle Zapiain, IR and Economics '07 and president of the Undergraduate Economics Association, who has been awarded the prestigious Pamela Harriman Foreign Service Fellowship. The fellowship provides outstanding undergraduates from across the nation the opportunity to spend a summer in a professional position with the United States Department of State. Only three fellowships are awarded each year; one is reserved for a student of the College of William and Mary, and the other two are available for undergraduates from universities from around the nation. Michelle is the first recipient of the award from a Florida university. She will be working in the Office of the Secretary of State during the summer. |
| April 20, 2007. Lots of news about Jeff Czajkowski today. Jeff took first place in the Business, Finance, and Economics category of the 2007 FIU Graduate Student Association Scholarly Forum held on April 6th. This is the 3rd year in a row that a PhD student from the economics department has placed first at the scholarly forum. He was also awarded one of eight 2007 TA Excellence In Teaching Awards. Jeff is presenting his paper entitled "Is it Time to Go Yet? Dynamically Modeling Hurricane Evacuations" at the first annual Symposium on Disasters hosted by the Roosevelt Institution at Tulane University on Apr 20-21. Finally, Jeff will be joining Austin College as an assistant professor this Fall. |
