December 7, 2006. Mihaela Pintea and  Peter Thompson's paper, "Technological Complexity and Economic Growth", has been accepted for publication in the Review of Economic Dynamics.
December 3, 2005. This weekend, Peter Thompson watched his paper "Intra-industry Spinoffs" [with Steven Klepper], being presented at the sixth annual Roundtable for Engineering Entrepreneurship Research in Atlanta, GA, and at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. He found it very relaxing.
November 27, 2006. Mihaela Pintea's paper, "Congestion and Fiscal Policy in a Two-Sector Economy with Public Capital: A Quantitative Assessment" [co-authored with Stephen
Turnovsky], appears in Computational Economics, Volume 28, Issue 2, pp. 177-209 (September 2006).
November 21, 2006. Mihaela Pintea presented her paper  "Leisure Externalities: Implications for Growth and Welfare" at The Southern Economics Association meetings in Charleston, SC.
November 6, 2006.  Jonathan Hill presented his paper "Robust Tests of Extremal Volatility Spillover with an Application to Extremal Asset Market Contagion" at the University of Mannheim's Statistics/Econometrics Group Brown Bag Seminar Series and at the Tinbergen Institute's (Rotterdam U., U. of Amsterdam, Free U. of Amsterdam) Econometrics Seminar Series.
November 5, 2006. Peter Thompson's paper, "How Much Did the Liberty Shipbuilders Forget?", has been accepted for publication in Management Science.
October 16, 2006. Mira Wilkins has just returned from a Conference in Zurich, Switzerland, where she gave an invited paper entitled "Multinational Enterprise in Insurance: An Historical Overview."
October 5, 2006. Peter Thompson's paper, "Collective Equipoise, Disappointment, and the Therapeutic Misconception: On the Consequences of Selection for Clinical Research" [with Margaret Byrne], appears in Medical Decision Making, Volume 26, pages 467-479 (September/October 2006).
October 2, 2006. Peter Thompson presented his paper "How Much Did the Liberty Shipbuilders Forget?" at the Olin Business School, Washington University in St. Louis. The previous week he presented a paper, "Desperate Housewives?", at Florida Atlantic University.
September 21, 2006. We are pleased to welcome to our community Brice Dupoyet (Assistant Professor, Finance) and Gulcin Gumus (Assistant Professor, Health Policy and Management), who have accepted courtesy appointments in the department.
September 18, 2006. Peter Thompson's paper, "Technical Change and the Demand for Skills during the Second Industrial Revolution: Evidence from the Merchant Marine, 1891-1912" [with Aimee Chin and Chinhui Juhn], appears in The Review of Economics and Statistics, Volume 88, Issue 3, pages 572-578 (August 2006).

August 31, 2006. Mira Wilkins has just returned from a trip to Helsinki, Finland, for the Congress of the International Economic History Association, where she presented a paper on "Europe as Home and Host to Multinational Enterprise."  
August 14, 2006. Jeff Czajkowski presented his paper "Identifying True Willingness-To-Pay from a Structural Shift Model" at Camp Resources XIV on August 10-11, 2006 in Wilmington, North Carolina. 
June 29, 2006. Richard Chisik's paper "When Winning is the Only Thing: Pure Strategy Nash Equilibria in a Three-Candidate Spatial Voting Model" (co-authored with Robert Lemke)  appears in Social Choice and Welfare, Volume 26, Number 1, pages 209-215.
June 29, 2006. We are pleased to announce that Richard Chisik has been promoted to  Associate Professor with tenure.
June 22, 2006. Peter Thompson's paper, "Patent Citations and the Geography of Knowledge Spillovers: Evidence from Inventor- and Examiner-Added Citations," appears in The Review of Economics and Statistics, Volume 88, Issue 2, pages 383-389.

June 21, 2006. Irma Alonso's online course, "Women, Culture and Economic Development," has been recognized as a 2006 WebCT Exemplary Course. Professor Alonso's course is one of just six courses worldwide to receive such recognition, and will be showcased at IMPACT 2006, the 8th Annual WebCT User Conference, July 10-14, 2006, in Chicago.
June 3, 2006. Richard Chisik presented two of his research papers, "Tenure, Turnover and Age Discrimination" and "Do Preferential Trade Agreements Created Under the GATT 1979 Enabling Clause Generate Economic Integration and Stability?" at the Canadian Economic Association annual meetings in Montreal on May 26-28, 2006.
June 1, 2006. Mihaela Pintea's paper, "Public and private production in a two-sector economy"  [co-authored with Stephen Turnovsky], appears in the Journal of Macroeconomics, Volume 28, Issue 2, pages 273-302 (June 2006).
May 24, 2006. We are pleased to announce that Nejat Anbarci and Peter Thompson have been promoted to Professor.
May 23, 2006. Prasad Bidarkota's paper, "Intrinsic Bubbles and Fat Tails in Stock Prices: A Note" [co-authored with Brice Dupoyet], has been accepted for publication in Macroeconomic Dynamics.
May 1, 2006. On April 19 and 21, 2006, Mira Wilkins gave invited seminars at Rutgers and at the Stern School, New York University.  The seminar presentations, which had different titles, were, however, similar in content. Both dealt with non-conforming forms of multinational enterprise, reflecting the results of group research on the history of the spread of electrification around the world. 
April 19, 2006. Mahadev Bhat's paper, "Regional Economic Impacts of Limited Entry Fishery Management: An Application of Dynamic Input-Output Model" [co-authored with R. Bhatta], has been accepted for publication in Environment and Development Economics.
April 19, 2006. John Boyd's paper "Discrete-Time Recursive Utility"" appears in the Handbook of Optimal Growth I: Discrete Time, [edited by R. Dana, C. Van, T. Mitra,  and K. Nishimura], which has just been published by Springer.
April 10, 2006. Mahadev Bhat's paper, "Management of a Transboundary Wildlife Population: A Self-Enforcing Cooperative Agreement with Renegotiation and Variable Transfer Payments" [co-authored with R. G. Huffaker], has been accepted for publication in Journal of Environmental Economics and Management.

March 27, 2006. Jonathan Hill's paper, "Efficient Tests of Long-Run Causation in Trivariate VAR Processes with a Rolling Window Study of the Money-Income Relationship," has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Applied Econometrics.
February 22, 2006. Prasad Bidarkota's paper, "The Impact of Fat Tails on Equilibrium Rates of Return and Term Premia" [co-authored with Brice Dupoyet], has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control.
February 8, 2006. The department is now accepting applications from outstanding FIU undergraduates for the BA/MA program in economics. Information is available here.
January 9, 2006. Jesse Bull's paper, "Hard Evidence and Mechanism Design" [co-authored with Joel Watson], has been accepted for publication in Games and Economic Behavior.
