| June 4, 2008. Mira Wilkins' article, “Chandler: A Retrospect,” has just been published online by Enterprise and Society (the print version is scheduled to appear in the September 2008 issue). Her article is one of six essays by business historians about the influence on the writer of the late Alfred D. Chandler. |
| June 1, 2008. Mira Wilkins gave a paper at a conference (held May 30-31, 2008, in Frankfurt am Main) and sponsored by the Deutsche Bundesbank and the European Association for Banking and Financial History. Her paper was on "European Multinational Enterprise, Finance, and American Prospects, 1950-1970." The theme of the conference was "Continental and Global Networks of Credit and Capital in Historical Perspective." The conference's timing coincided with a celebration of ten years of the Euro and thus included a panel discussion on the Eurosystem and its outlook. |

A second paper, "Costly Evidence Production and the Limits of Verifiability," was accepted for publication in Topics in Theoretical Economics (BE press). |

| April 14, 2008. Peter Thompson participated in the 15th CCC Doctoral Colloquium, 11-13 April, hosted this year by Carnegie Mellon University. |
| February 5, 2008. Four of Mira Wilkins's previously published articles have been reprinted in a two-volume collection of essays in Edward Elgar's reprint series: International Library of Entrepreneurship, Entrepreneurship and Global Capitalism, edited by Geoffrey Jones and R. Daniel Wadhwani. The four articles include her 1988 Economic History Review essay on "The Free-Standing Company, 1870-1914: an Important Type of British Foreign Direct Investment," and the follow-up to that piece, "The Free-Standing Company Revisited," published ten years later in Mira Wilkins and Harm Schröter, eds., The Free-Standing Company in the World Economy 1830-1996. Also included is her 1974 Journal of Economic History article, "The Role of Private Business in the International Diffusion of Technology"; the latter had earlier been reprinted in four different edited collections of scholarly papers (collections edited by Peter Buckley, Geoffrey Jones, David Jeremy, and John Cantwell). The fourth reprinted essay in the Jones and Wadhwani volumes is "An American Enterprise Abroad: American Radiator Company in Europe, 1895-1914," originally published in 1969 in Business History Review. |

| January 7, 2008. Jungmin Lee presented two papers at the ASSA meetings in New Orleans: "Infertility and Female Labor Supply," co-authored with Amy Farmer, and "Explaining within Subject Risk Aversion Variation Using Psychological Measures of Risk Attitudes," co-authored with Cary Deck and Javier Reyes. The second paper was part of a special session on the game show, Deal or No Deal, which garnered attention in the the Chronicle of Higher Education. |
