Center for the Administration
of Justice
The
Center for the Administration of Justice (CAJ), was established as a component
of the College of Urban and Public Affairs (CUPA) at Florida International University
in 1984, to engage in research, training and public education regarding the
administration of justice in Latin America.
2.
Center for Banking and Financial Institutions
Established
in 1989 to provide additional services to banks and financial institutions
in the southeastern United States, in Latin America, and in the Caribbean
region.
3.
Center for International Business Education & Research (CIBER)
We
deliver unique curricular, research, and outreach programs in a cost-effective
way to advance FIU's agenda of international teaching, research and outreach.
Our purpose is to make our various stakeholders--students, faculty, university
community, South Florida business community and residents--more competitive
in the global economy. We strive to promote U.S. competitiveness and to be
a local and region al resource for ensuring that the U.S. is globally competitive.

Center for Labor Research & Studies
It
serves students, faculty and administrators throughout the State University
System as well as labor, business, community organizations, academics, policy
makers, and journalists, nationally and internationally, through a series
of diverse activities. The Center also provides courses in dealing with diversity
in the workplace.
5.
Center for Tourism and Technology
Our
mission is two-fold; first, we seek to broadly investigate and examine the
Internet and other information technologies which are defining and impacting
the tourism, travel and hospitality industries; and, secondly, we provide
venues - in the form of projects, training, technical assistance and consulting
- for the transfer of key technologies, paradigms and "know-how"
to countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Center for Urban Education and Innovation
The
mission of the Center for Urban Education & Innovation is to facilitate
and support basic research, professional service to the educational community,
and public advocacy relating to critical issues in urban school systems in
Southeast Florida and beyond. Programs and activities of the Center focus
on improving student achievement, enhancing the quality and responsiveness
of schools as learning organizations, and contributing to the development
of theory and practice in areas addressing the needs of students and families
from diverse racial, cultural, socioeconomic and linguistic backgrounds.
7.
Child and Family Psychosocial Research Center
CAPP
provides comprehensive diagnostic assessments and state-of-the-art treatments
for children and adolescents (7-16 years old) who are experiencing excessive
fear and anxiety related problems.
8.
Children's Creative Learning Center
The
CCLC at FIU seeks to offer an opportunity for optimal growth and development
for each child by providing a socio-emotional based early care and education
program including communication, expression of feelings, decision making and
critical thinking experiences. A welcoming, secure, diverse and multi-cultural
environment is offered to each family while serving as a demonstration and
research site for departments of the University and programs in the community.

Colombian Studies Institute
The
goal of the Colombian Studies Institute (CSI) is to become the leading research
center on the non-military aspects of the implementation and consequences
of the Colombian peace process and anti-narcotics programs, including the
current Plan Colombia. Through high-quality, timely research, and analysis
of Colombian conditions, the Colombian Studies Institute's network of scholars
and researchers explores the impact of Colombian political, economic, and
social conditions on the quality of life in Colombia, surrounding South American
states, and the United States.

Cuban Research Institute
Aware
of our unique situation with respect to Cuba, the mission of the CRI is therefore
to develop quality research, teaching, and service programs intended to place
the University in a leadership position, at the national and international
levels, in the field of Cuban and Cuban American Studies.

Elders Institute

12. English Language Institute
To provide quality English language instruction to all individuals
who have chosen English as their medium of communication for academic or professional
pursuits and to promote international and intercultural understanding.
13.
Florida Caribbean Institute (FCI)
The
Florida Caribbean Institute (FCI) expands cultural, educational, and commercial
ties between the state of Florida and the countries of the Caribbean Basin.
14.
Florida Mexico Institute
FMI's objectives are to develop commercial and trade
opportunities, heighten cultural awareness, and create educational links of
mutual benefit to both Florida and Mexico by promoting expanded public and
private dialogue on research, development, and technical assistance; increasing
opportunities for bilateral commerce; facilitating university and other cultural
exchanges; and enhancing language training skills between Florida's postsecondary
institutions and those in select foreign countries.
15.
Immigration and Ethnicity Institute
The mission of the Immigration and Ethnicity Institute
at Florida International University (FIU) is to advance research and education
in Immigration and Ethnic Studies. FIU's location in Miami, Florida's ethnically
diverse and largest metropolitan area, places it at the cutting edge of the
immigration and ethnic issues that critically determine the future of both
Florida and the nation. The fundamental
goal of IEI is to advance our ability to understand and manage the issues
and problems swirling around immigration and ethnicity.
16.
Institute for Asian Studies
It
oversees study abroad programs with Asian institutions, facilitates the acquisition
of library materials in source languages, and sponsors activities with local
businesses, colleges, schools, and other institutions to promote an awareness
of Asian and Asian-American culture.
17.
Institute for International Professional Services
The
Institute for International Professional Services (IIPS), affiliated with
the Latin American and Caribbean Center (LACC) and the Center for International
Business Education and Research (CIBER), will work in partnership with the
Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce (GMCC) to promote Florida’s exports of services.
18.
Institute for Judaic Studies
It educates the students and faculty at FIU and the general south Florida community about Jewish and Near Eastern history, culture, religion, literature, political science, and international relations. The Institute offers academically rigorous courses, lectures, and other programs that range across the disciplines. FIU's Institute for Judaic and Near Eastern Studies grants a Certificate in Judaic Studies to currently enrolled FIU students. It sponsors an annual lecture series, bringing to south Florida leading scholars in Jewish and Near Eastern Studies.
19.
Institute for Public Opinion Research
The
Institute for Public Opinion Research (IPOR) is a research arm of the School
of Journalism and Mass Communication at Florida International University.
IPOR was founded in 1983 to provide decision makers with reliable and timely
information on how a scientifically-selected sample of the public stands on
important issues, and to enhance the dialogue on major issues among decision
makers, the media, and the people of Florida.

Institute for Workforce Competitiveness
To
improve workforce development and utilization through research, technical
assistance, and partnership development.
21.
Intercultural Dance and Music Institute
INDAMI's primary purpose is to foster
the preservation of all cultural dance and music forms through study, research,
publications, conferences, performances, lectures, and classes. It seeks to
foster cross-cultural understanding and promote the appreciation of cultural
differences. Reflecting the large Latin American and Caribbean population
of the Greater Miami area, our programs emphasize the dance and music of these
geographical areas.

International Institute of Educational Development
The
International Institute of Educational Development (IIED) is a multidisciplinary
unit based in the College of Educationwhose mission includes:
Planning,
technical assistance, training and research in support of educational systems
development internationally and, multi-institutional collaboration in educational
development projects and research and, to support graduate programs in international
and intercultural development education.

International Student & Scholar Services
The
Office of International Student & Scholar Services assists international
students and visiting professors/researchers by providing advising services
related to immigration, legal, personal, academic, cultural, social, and financial
concerns.
24.
Latin American and Caribbean Center
LACC’s
mission is to foster high quality research, education and services on Latin
America and the Caribbean, building on the unique assets of our inter-American
setting.
25.
Manufacturing Research Center
The
mission of the MRC is to provide a vital link between University Activities
and the South Florida and Latin American manufacturing communities by establishing
a strong commitment to serving the manufacturing industry, training manufacturing
engineers and researchers, and developing leading edge manufacturing technology
and systems.

Multicultural Programs and Services
The
mission of the Office of Multicultural Programs and Services is to enhance
the educational opportunities of pre-college and college students by providing
services that educate and improve their lives academically, culturally, financially,
and socially.
27.
National Policy & Resource Center on Nutrition & Aging
Work
with the federal Administration on Aging (AoA) and the USDA to provide national
leadership in Aging, Nutrition and Extension Networks; place food and nutrition
services in the mainstream of home and community based social, health and
long-term care delivery systems serving older individuals.
28.
Office of Disability Services
By providing information and advocacy, the Office of Disability Services
seeks to assure the human, educational, and legal rights of individuals with
disabilities. We intend to advance the express choices of persons with disabilities
while preserving dignity, equality, and self-determination.
29. Professional Development Center
The Professional Development Center at Florida International University
(FIU/PDC) provides highest quality, competency-based training for Family Safety
staff within the Department of Children and Families, and to the child protection
community at large.
30.
Southeast Florida Center on
Aging
The
Center on Aging of Florida International University engages in research, education
and training initiatives that address the complex issues of growing older
in an increasingly heterogeneous and aging society. The Center collaborates
with faculty throughout the University's many academic units and disciplines,
creating a rich cross-fertilization of gerontological expertise with discipline-specific
research and instruction. The overarching mission of the Center on Aging is
to expand knowledge and understanding about the lives of older people through
research, education and training.
31.
Summit of the Americas Center
A
central element of the center's mission is to provide independent analysis
of the impact on Florida of trade liberalization and other dimensions of hemispheric
integration. In its research, conferences
and publications, SOAC seeks to depict the broadest vision of hemispheric
integration-not only as an economic process, and not simply as reflected through
periodic declarations and agreements.

Transnational and Comparative Studies Center
The
mission of the Center for Transnational and Comparative Studies (TCS) is to
enhance the University's teaching, research, and outreach activities involving
both area studies and transnational, thematic areas of concentration, such
as migration, crime, environmental, and global economic issues.
33. Women's Center
The Women's Center at FIU was established to provide women with programs
and services related to their intellectual, professional, social and emotional
growth. The Women's Center collaborates and coordinates with other University
departments to meet the needs, and enhance the lives, of the varied female
population on campus. We educate and advocate for systematic changes that
will improve the lives of women and men.
34.
Women's Studies Center
The
FIU Women's Studies Center, established in 1982, develops and coordinates
academic courses and community programming on women, sexual orientation, and
gender, and supports research in those and related fields. Courses provide
an opportunity for the study of women, the construction of gender, and gay
and lesbian studies through liberal arts disciplines, the sciences, and professional
programs. They are coordinated through various university departments, and
are open to all students. The center is committed to teaching and research
about gender in the contexts of global concerns, nationality, race, religion,
region, ethnicity, class, age, and sexual identity.
