The
FIU Diversity Initiative is a volunteer group comprised of three teams: Student,
Faculty, and Staff. Its purpose is to create an academic and social environment
that supports the diverse needs of our learning community.
Some
departments specialize in specific cultural areas of study about diversity such
as Asian Studies or Latin American & Caribbean Studies. Many others, such
as Education or Labor Studies have specific course topic areas of study that
address diversity issues in the classroom or work environment.
Committee
a ppointed by the President to monitor the implementation of the Universitys
Affirmative Action Plan, and to guide and advise the Office of Equal Opportunity
Programs.
The
Diversity Initiative produces two official publications annually:
Diversity Exchange Magazine and a diversity newsletter. Other diversity related
reports and articles are published periodically.
FIU
Faculty, Staff and Students have compiled a number of diversity related resource
materials (videos, exercises, articles).
Often
Departments, Centers, and Services offer special diversity related training.

Centers
focus on specific issue areas and often take the lead in offering programming
about issues of diversity. Some university services and organizations offer
