Prepaid - Frequently Asked Questions

Q.    Do I need to show my card to activate my Prepaid?

A.    NO.  You do not need to do anything.  Prepaid is automatic.  The only thing you need to do is pay your portion.
Q.    What is my portion?  Doesn't Prepaid cover 100% of tuition?
A.    NO.  Prepaid pays the state portion of tuition.  For the 2003-2004 academic year, the state portion covered by Prepaid is $71.34 per credit.  The student is responsible for all the other fees. See chart below for the state portion covered by Prepaid. If you have the local fee plan, it will also cover health fees, athletic fees, and the local portion of tuition.
Q.    I have Florida Prepaid and other Financial Aid.  Will the difference be automatically deducted from my other aid?
A.    NO.  You must pay the difference yourself.  The difference will not be automatically deducted from your Financial Aid. You can pay your portion by the Last Day to Pay Fees or you can wait until you receive your Financial Aid check from FIU.  Once you receive the check, you must cash it and pay the portion of your tuition not covered by Prepaid. See chart below for the state portion covered by Prepaid.
Q.    What must I do if I don't want to use Prepaid for a particular semester?
A.   If you don't want to use Prepaid, you must notify Stacy Santayana in PC 226 as soon as you register.  If you neglect  to do this by the Last Day to Pay Fees, Prepaid will be billed.
If you would like to contact Florida Prepaid, you can do so by calling 1-800-552-GRAD (4723).

Third Party Accounting - FYI

Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) recipients must bring their voucher to Third Party Accounting before the Last Day to Pay Fees.        National Guard and EDD recipients must turn in their TA assistance form to their unit to be processed.
This form is then sent to St. Augustine, for approval by Andrew Rusnak.  After approval, Mr. Rusnak sends a list
of approved students to FIU.  Students sponsored by the National Guard need to check with Stacy Santayana
in Third Party Accounting to verify that their name is on the list sent from St. Augustine.

STEP recipients receive their TA authorization from their unit. They need to bring their TA form to Stacy Santayana for processing.

ROTC list is sent to Stacy Santayana by FIU ROTC.

Coast Guard, Army, Air Force, Navy and Marine TA recipients must bring in paperwork and pay their portion.
TA will usually cover 50%-100% of tuition alone.  The remaining portion of tuition, plus fees, must be paid by the student.

VA- Chapters 30 and 9 and GI Bill recipients must see Mike Santana in Veterans' Affairs - PC 130.
