SACS ASSESSMENT UPDATES

DEADLINES FOR SUBMISSION OF ASSESSMENT MATERIALS
      • Wednesday, December 3, Two Column SLOs and POs due to CAS/Charlyne Walker
      • Friday, January 9, 2009: Fall 2008 Assessment data due to CAS/Charlyne Walker
      • Friday, May 8, 2009: Spring 2009 Assessment data due to CAS/Charlyne Walker

I. UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS

For each undergraduate degree program, submit the following 2 reports (SLOs and POs) with each SLO and PO Outcome being reported on a separate page:

A. DUE Dec 3: STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES– for the major - SLOs that departments have been using to assess the major must be converted to a 3 column format

Instructions from CAS concerning Dec. 3 deadline

  1. USE THE SLO TEMPLATE (5 pages)
  2. FILL IN DEPARTMENT INFO AT TOP
  3. fill in page 1 to indicate SUBJECT KNOWLEDGE/CONTENT specific to your discipline/major (add pages if necessary) - COMPLETE ONLY COLUMN 1&2 for each SLO. The SUBJECT KNOWLEDGE/CONTENT SLO was/is being discussed in individual meetings between the Dean's office and departments; some are scheduled for Dec. 1. Please contact Dean Rose, Dean Rae, or Dr. Walker for more information.
  4. ADAPT THE METHOD OF ASSESSMENT (see highlighted areas on the form) FOR THE 3 SLOs provided by CAS for critical thinking, written communication and oral communication. These measures will be used to evaluate the UCC program for graduating students AND also may be used by the department to assess these skills FOR THE MAJOR/BA/BS. In other words, these may be used both to assess these skills for the UCC and the major.
  5. RETURN TO CHARLYNE@FIU.EDU BY DEC. 3

    ADDITIONAL MATERIALS BELOW FOR ASSESSMENT USING RUBRICS:

  • TEMPLATE for CAS undergrad rubric (4pages)- this template also has a page that may be used for a 4th SUBJECT KNOWLEDGE/CONTENT SLO for the major as discussed in individual interviews with the Dean's office and departments
    • subject knowledge/content (to be filled in to reflect discipline specific content)
    • critical thinking
    • written communication
    • oral communication)
    • These rubrics will assess the UCC Program AND also may be used to assess critical thinking, written and oral communication for the major)
  • data summary sheet - to calculate scores from 3 member faculty panel

B. DUE Dec. 3- PROGRAM OUTCOMES -All undergraduate programs will use the same 3 Program Outcomes and data for those POs will be provided by A&S. Programs are free to use additional POs following the instructions below (each PO must be reported on a separate page).

  • TEMPLATE for POs required by CAS; data will be provided by CAS for POs concerning students
    • Faculty Productivity - provided by faculty to department chair and submitted to CAS in annual departmental progress report; OK FOR YOU TO MODIFY ASSESSMENT METHODS TO SUIT YOUR DISCIPLINE
    • Undergraduate Exit Survey for POs - TBA - will be administered by CAS and data will be provided by departments
    • Alumni Survey - will be administered by CAS and date will be provided to departments
    • The results for POs will only be gathered and reported once per year in the spring, so we will revisit these in Spring 2009. In other words, there are no POs due in January 2009
