Dear Swimmer:
Thank you for being interested in FIU and the Golden Panthers
Swimming Team. In order for you to have a good experience with
registration and admission to the university, we have put together
all the information you will need and the order in which you
must proceed with the paper work.
1. Register with the NCAA Initial
Eligibility Clearinghouse

custom home page for all necessary info. |

In order to be registered with the clearinghouse, you must complete
the student-release form and mail or fax the form to the clearinghouse
along with the $27.00 US registration fee. |

2. Take the SAT and the TOFEL
tests
FIU (code-0776), Clearinghouse (code-9999) |

a). The SAT is required of all applicants who want
to enroll into a University program. In order for you to be accepted
into FIU you need a minimum of 1080 combined score. In order
to be eligible by NCAA you need a minimum of 820 combined
score. For details please check the NCAA web site at www.ncaa.org.
b). The TOEFL is required of all applicants whose native
language is not English. The TOEFL is given worldwide. There
is a fee for the examination. A 500 paper-base and 200 computer-base
minimum score is required for all undergraduate programs.
The following exceptions apply: |

1.) Applicants who completed 4 years of high school in the United
States or other English-speaking countries.
2.) Applicants who hold an undergraduate or graduate degree from
an institution within the United States or other English-speaking
countries. |

3. Fill out the FIU application
for admissions |
|
You can either obtain an application form from the swimming
coach or go to the FIU web site at www.
fiu.edu and look up the Future Student site here you
will have access to all the information you will need. The application
fee is $20 US and needs to be paid either by credit
card or by money order in US currency.
What other documents you need to apply to FIU: |

a). Official transcripts, diplomas, and/or certificates
must be sent directly from each previous institution to the Office
of Admissions.
Documents in a language other than English must be translated
by an official translation agency. Notarized translations are
not acceptable.
b). SAT and TOFEL scores
You need to have the testing agencies for both tests to send
the test scores directly to FIU admissions. The code for FIU
is 0776. For more info on this look up the FIU web site at
www.fiu.edu. |

After admitted to FIU and cleared by the Clearinghouse you will
need to provide the following information: |

Declaration and Certification of Finances
The Bank letter must be official from your family bank, copies
are not accepted. It must be written in ENGLISH. It must state
your parents name, your name, and that they will be supporting
you while you are studying. It must also state the numeric amount
in US $. Once your bank letter is in, you will be issued your
I-20 for immigration purposes. |

Measles and Rubella Requirements
Please provide the University with proof of vaccination with
the exact dates in which you have received them. A form
needs to be filled out with all the info and signed by your doctor. |

Housing Application
All freshmen students are required to live on campus in their
first year. If you are receiving a swimming scholarship that
covers housing also, you need to talk with the Swimming coach
about the housing arrangements. You will receive info from the
Swimming office and the coach about the steps you need to take.
You will have to pay a fee of $150 US, $50 is a processing
fee and you will have $100 that will be given back to you after
graduation if there is no damage to the room. |

Health Insurance
Every year you will have to pay your insurance fees that are
required to have for all students at FIU. As an international
student you will buy the insurance from the school. The fee for
each year is $666 US. |

8. |
Orientation
All new students are required to attend orientation prior to
attending FIU. There are several dates offered, look them up
and sign up on the FIU web site. Cost of orientation is $40
US. |
