Coach Gwydir on Kristen: “Kristen is one of our best hitters. She’s got a natural swing that many people never master. Last year she batted fourth for us on a lot of occasions, and she should benefit from our having a deeper lineup this season. It will be nice to be able to say we’re going to be able to put her in a five-, six-, or seven- hole this year. She got a lot of big hits last year, but we’re looking for more consistency out of her this year. Defensively as a catcher, she is a very good receiver and has worked on her throwing. She is also very comfortable out in left field, which gives us more options in our lineup.”

2002: Played in 68 games, starting 63…Named second-team All-Sun Belt Conference…Finished third for FIU with a .284 (50-for-176) batting average…Ranked second on the team with nine doubles and tied for the team lead with two home runs…Knocked in 20 runs while scoring 14…Was second on the squad with a .369 slugging percentage…Totaled eight multiple-hit games…Batted 2-for-3 with a homer at San Diego State (2/16/02)…Connected for her second home run while going 2-for-2 vs. New Mexico State (4/13).

2001: Batted .375 with runners on base, including a game-winning single over South Florida (1/27) in the bottom of the ninth inning…Went 5-for-9 at the plate in her first four collegiate games.

High School: Received 2000 All-Dade first-team honors and second-team all-state accolades…Named MVP of her high school teams after both her junior and senior seasons…As a freshman, played on the Southridge team that won the 1997 state championship.
