Head Softball Coach
Kim Gwydir
Entering her
fifth season as head softball coach, Kim Gwydir
started the Golden Panthers intercollegiate softball
program four years ago, and has a record of 133-110
here. Overall she has a 249-179-1-career record
in eight years of intercollegiate coaching.
Gwydir came
from C.W. Post in Brookville, Long Island, where
she was the head softball coach for four seasons,
leaving the program as the winningest coach in
its history with a 116-69-1 record.
In the 2001
season, Gwydir had her best record with the Golden
Panthers. Her squad finished at 44-22, playing
some of the best intercollegiate programs in America.
Traveling to play traditional powerhouses, such
as Oregon State, UCLA, Utah and Florida State.
She had her second player named to the all-region
team in Jennifer Owens.
The year before,
Gwydir had the first player named to the all-region
team in Shannon Carey. That year also saw the
inaugural "Golden Panther Invitational,"
in March.
Gwydir led
the first ever softball team to a second place
finish in the Trans America Athletic Conference
and appearance in the conference tournament. Gwydir
was awarded for her efforts in 1998 by being named
Coach of the Year in the TAAC.
Four years
ago, she helped C.W. Post set a school mark for
wins in a season (38) when her team went on to
make its first NCAA Division II Tournament appearance
since 1985. Gwydir led C.W. Post to back-to-back
New York Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships,
including a 19-0 mark in the conference in 1997,
the first team to ever go undefeated in league
play. She was named the NYCAC's Coach of the Year
and was also selected as the NCAA Division II
Northeast Region Coach of the Year.
The Huntington,
NY native is no stranger at starting successful
women's softball programs. In 1992, she founded
and organized the Long Island Chargers, an ASA
Junior Olympic Girls Fast-pitch Softball organization
that has since been voted by the Wilson Sports
goods Company as one of the Top 15 travel organizations
in America.
An accomplished
trumpet player, Gwydir is a 1988 graduate of Adelphi
University. That year, she was also the assistant
varsity baseball coach at St. Anthony's High School
in South Huntington, New York, becoming the first
female baseball coach in Long Island Catholic
League history.
In 1989-90,
she coached the St. Anthony's junior varsity baseball
team to the regular-season league championship,
then coach three years at Half Hollow Hills High
School prior to her stint at C.W. Post.

Assistant Coach
Sara Headley
Sara Headley starts her first
season as assistant coach on the Golden Panthers
staff. Headley comes from Robert Morris College,
where she earned a degree in sports management,
and played four years of softball.
Headley was a Northeast
region All-American and was named All-Northeast
Conference her sophomore and junior years. She
was the starting catcher on the 1998 conference
championship team.
Headley, a native of Warrenton,
Virginia, was named female athlete of the year
at Mills E. Godwin High School. The 24-year old
was awarded with All-Virginia honors her senior
year, including being named to the all-region
and all-district teams.
She was an assistant coach
the past two years at Augusta State University
in Georgia, where she received a master's degree
in business administration.
Assistant Coach
Bobby Hatter
Bobby Hatter enters his second
season with the Golden Panthers softball program
as an assistant coach. He will work mainly with
the outfielders and building team unity.
His experience includes
working two years as the assistant baseball coach
at Montevallo High School in Alabama. Hatter also
served as the after-school sports coach at Kendall
Christian School after moving to Miami.
Hatter is currently working
full-time at FIU with Campus Outreach as the chaplin
for the sports program, while instructing with
the NCAA CHAMPS Life Skills program. He attended
the University of Montevallo where he received
his bachelors in Social Work.
Hatter enjoys volunteering
for the Little-League program with his children.
He is married to the former Amy Foster and has
two children, Heidi and Hannah.
Student Assistant
Shannon Carey
Shannon Carey joins the staff
as a student assistant, after a successful four-year
playing career. She will be assisting with the
corners, especially with first base and as a hitting
coach.
Two of Carey's four years
came as a Golden Panther. She left as the career
leader in home runs (18) and doubles (28). She
was voted second-team All-Southeast Region as
a first baseman her junior year, as well as Newcomer
of the year in the Sun Belt Conference.
The Waterloo, Ontario native
is coming back from playing with the Canadian
National Team over the summer.
