Golden Panther Arena officially renamed Pharmed Arena

The former Golden Panther Arena—home to FIU basketball, volleyball and a variety of intramural competitions as well as FIU commencement and other events—was rechristened Pharmed Arena last month. The new name recognizes the generous contribution to the Athletics Department made by brothers Jorge and Carlos de Cespedes.

The pair founded Pharmed Group, one of the largest independent distributors of medical, surgical and rehabilitative supplies in the U.S. Their $1 million donation will be doubled in value with matching funds from the State of Florida and support campus athletics facilities.

The formal rededication of the arena took place on center court immediately preceding a basketball game.
