Alumni networking event scheduled for March 4th

Spend a night at the beach with the FIU Alumni Association as it hosts its first networking event of the year on Fri., March 4, from 6-8 p.m., at The Wolfsonian-FIU. The museum will sponsor a tour and the Alumni Association will provide light food and beverages in the second-floor gallery, a comfortable lounge area typically not open to the public.

The museum's permanent collection reflects broad themes of the late nineteenth and twentienth centuries - nationalism, political persuasion, industrialization, architecture and urbanism, consumerism and advertising, transportation and world's fairs. Although drawing primarily from its own holdings, The Wolfsonian also features exhibits and loans from other collections.

The evening's tour will include the permanent collection as well as its current exhibition, Evolution/Revolution: A Century of Modern Seating. This latest exhibit focuses on seating furniture from 1849 to 1946. With the industrial revolution as a catalyst, a new generation of designers and manufacturers emerged to meet the demands of mass production and consumption. Their products convey a fresh approach to design, manufacturing and marketing. This exhibition explores the history of seating design by examining form and function as well as symbolism and meaning.
