Baseball posts a 4-3 record heading into stretch
of 23 home games

After a 2-0 start on the season, the Golden Panthers have experienced mixed success as they head into a stretch of 23-straight home games beginning Feb. 18 against La Salle.

Most recently, the team earned a 6-1 victory over Florida A&M on Feb. 12. In the game, back-to-back pinch hits by freshmen James McOwen and Michael Jordan broke a 1-1 tie in the seventh inning. The Golden Panthers added a run in the eighth and two in the ninth en route to the win. FIU starter Elih Villanueva went six innings to raise his record to 2-1 on the season in the win. Senior Danny Hernandez pitched a scoreless ninth for his second save of the season.

The previous evening, the team had snapped a three-game losing streak with a 9-1 win over Florida A & M. In that game, the Golden Panther relied on its execution of sacrifice bunts and capitalized on five Rattlers’ errors in the win.

This is the fourth win this season for FIU again Florida A&M. In late January, the Golden Panthers began their season in style with a 6-0, 5-3 doubleheader sweep of the team. The season-opening wins marked the fourth time in six years that the team began its season with two straight wins.
