Transfer Credit
Transfer credit is awarded for academic courses completed at regionally accredited institutions. Under the provisions of the Statewide Course Numbering System, courses taken at a Florida public university or community college will be accepted as equivalent coursework. Courses judged to be equivalent to FIU coursework will be accepted for transfer credit. All transfer work is evaluated first by the Office of Admissions to determine overall acceptance of credit. The final applicability of transfer credit rests with the respective academic department. Admission to FIU does not guarantee acceptance into all programs or courses offered by the University.
Transfer Student Admission Requirements
To transfer to FIU, applicants must submit the following information to the Office of Admissions:
Applications (You can apply to FIU by any of the following methods): Apply now!
Transcripts: Electronic or official printed transcripts from all post-secondary institutions must be submitted to the Office of Admissions.
Tests: Students transferring from a public university or college within the state of Florida must submit passing scores from the College Level Academic Test (CLAST).
Additional Requirements: Students with less than 60 transferable academic credits must also submit their secondary school transcripts and official copies of SAT or ACT scores (this also applies to international students).
The 2+2 Partnership: Associate in Arts Degrees and the Articulation Agreement In 1971, the Florida Statewide Articulation Agreement was approved by the Florida Board of Education. Under the Articulation Agreement, a student who receives the Associate in Arts (A.A) Degree from a Florida public community college is guaranteed admission to upper division status, with the exception of limited access programs. (Limited access programs are selective in admission and require additional criteria. Please contact the academic department or university catalog for specific requirements.) The Associate in Arts Degree, the basic transfer degree of Florida public community colleges/junior colleges, provides for the effective and orderly transition into the University for community college graduates. Students who receive the Associate in Arts Degree are classified as juniors and have satisfied the University's general education requirements.
