Florida International University seeks students with solid academic backgrounds and test scores for its freshman class. The admission requirements set forth below give priority to applicants whose total record indicate the greatest likelihood for success.
The Florida Board of Education sets minimum eligibility criteria (listed below) for its eleven member institutions.
1. Graduation from an accredited secondary school or the successful completion of the GED.
2. Completion of 18 academic units in a college preparatory curriculum. The following distribution of the 18 units is required:
Four units of English (three units must include a substantial writing component.
Three units of mathematics (Algebra I or higher)
Three units of natural science (two with laboratories)
Three units of social sciences
Two units of the same foreign language
Three units of academic electives
For Florida High School Graduates, Florida International University honors both the new three-year 18-credit standard college preparatory program and the traditional four-year 24-credit standard program.
3. Submit official Scholastic
Aptitude Test (SAT I) or American College Test
(ACT) scores. To have your SAT I scores sent
to FIU contact the College Board at www.collegeboard.org

code number is 5206. To have ACT scores sent
contact the American College Testing program at
www.act.org or call (319) 337-1313. FIU's
ACT school code is 0776.
FIU recomputes the high school grade point average based on grades earned only in academic courses. Additional weight is assigned to grades earned in honors, advanced placement and International Baccalaureate courses.
International High School/Secondary
School Transcripts These transcripts need to be

International University-level
Transcripts These transcripts require a course-by-course
evaluation, with a calculated U.S. equivalent grade
point average, through one of the two member services
of the National Association of Credential Evaluation
Services (NACES). Official evaluations must be
forwarded directly to FIU from the evaluation service.
Transcripts: Electronic or official printed transcripts must be submitted to the Office of Admissions.
Tests: Freshman applicants must take the SAT or ACT and have the scores sent directly to FIU. For more information, contact The College Board (SAT) or American College Testing (ACT).
Additional Requirements: Students with dual enrollment, Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate credits should submit them to the Office of Admissions for evaluation.
Early Admission to FIU
The Office of Undergraduate Admissions will consider applications from exceptional high school juniors who request admission to the university following completion of the junior year in high school. Unlike dual enrollment, early admission candidates do not complete their senior year of high school nor earn their high school diploma; instead, they begin their freshman year of college.
Early admission requires:
Undergraduate Degree seeking application needs to be submitted.
A written statement explaining why early admission is being requested.
An official high school transcript covering grades 9, 10 and 11.
An overall academic average of 4.0 on required high school units.
An SAT score of 1300 (combined Verbal and Math) or an ACT composite score of 29 is required.
A letter from your high school principal or guidance counselor stating specific reasons why you would benefit more from early admission to college than from completing your senior year of high school.
