Student chapter of transportation engineers named nation's best

FIU's student chapter of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) was selected the best ITE student chapter in the country - no small feat since there are more than 100 student chapters throughout the country.

ITE is the flagship professional society of transportation engineers, and this is the highest recognition of a student group in the field. The award was based on the chapter's annual performance in more than 10 areas, including guest speaker events, technical field trips, student publications and presentations, honors and awards received, attendance at professional conferences and meetings, promotion of transportation engineering, community service, social events and more.

Because of the comprehensive nature of the evaluation criteria, the award acknowledges the overall excellence of the transportation program at FIU. Last year, FIU student Qiong Shen received the best paper award from the Institute.
