As Sr. Vice President of Human Resources, I am excited about all the challenges we have and continue to address in our quest to becoming an Employer of Choice. For the past several years, the Division of Human Resources has ardently worked through the devolution process to ensure FIU embraces best practices and adopts policies that will demonstrate our commitment to excellence.
Our work has included revamping the policies manual that was both outdated and failed to meet the growing demands of the FIU Family. Many of the policies were over 20 years old and had long ceased to be an effective mechanism by which to lead and motivate our emerging workforce. We embarked on the task of benchmarking leading organizations and incorporating best practices that addressed the needs of our valued employees. To this end, we have recently implemented the Tuition Fee Waiver for eligible faculty and staff and their family members, Educational Incentive Awards, and Professional Development Leave with Pay. Many other important initiatives such as the 20 hours of Professional Development, Same-Sex Medical Benefits and Work/Life Balance programs have been incorporated. It is our goal to ensure that FIU attracts and retains a talented workforce that will enjoy the benefits of a proactive organization determined to adopt practices that are forward thinking.
