Tuition Waiver Program

Requirements for Use of the Tuition Waiver Program for Employee’s Dependents - Undergraduate Courses Only!

1. Dependent must register for classes prior to the completion of the Tuition Waiver Form.

2. Upon completion of the registration process, the employee and dependent must sign and submit the Tuition Waiver Form to the Division of Human Resources for approval with the following attachments:

If a spouse:

  • a copy of the dependent’s class schedule
  • a marriage certificate.
  • a verification letter from the Registrar's Office stating they have been accepted into a degree-seeking program.

If a Child:

  • A copy of the dependent’s class schedule
  • Employee’s most recent IRS tax return to establish dependent status. Copy of fist page only required with all figures blackened before submission with Tuition Waiver Form.
  • Copy of the birth certificate
  • A verification letter from the Registrar's Office stating they have been accepted into a degree-seeking program.

3. The Tuition Waiver Form must be submitted to the Cashier’s Office. All fees, including parking, photo, health, athletic fees, lab fees, etc., applicable to the dependent, are the responsibility of said dependent and are to be paid upon submission of the Tuition Waiver Form to the Cashier’s Office. No exceptions will be considered.

4. Dependents will be subject to the $100 late payment fee if the Tuition Waiver Form and fees payment are not submitted and paid to the University by the last day without penalty date as established and published in the FIU Academic Calendar.

5. The employee will be responsible for any courses dropped by the dependent after the official Drop/Add period during the first week of classes.

6. If the dependent does not obtain a grade of “B” or better, the employee will be responsible for reimbursing the University for the tuition.

7. An FIU Employee eligible to use the Tuition Waiver Program as an employee may not participate as a dependent.
