Adding to the list of innovative human-resources initiatives that have been adopted by FIU in the past six months, the FIU Division of Human Resources has negotiated with three insurance companies to facilitate health care plans to all university temporary employees, vendors and their dependents. The plans are currently available.
Vista Health Plans, Preferred Medical Plan and Care Access Health Plan will visit University Park and Biscayne Bay Campus one day each month indefinitely to answer questions regarding their respective health plans and assist in the enrollment process. During these visits, FIU temporary employees and vendors will be able to enroll in the plan of their choice, review the premium rates to be paid directly to the insurance company, and select a primary care physician and other health-care providers. Temporary employees and contract workers may also enroll by visiting the respective health plan website. News of their visits and orientation will be posted on the FIU web site, Schedule
Since this is not a university plan, there is no period of open enrollment. Individuals may sign up for the health care insurance whenever they wish. The medical coverage will be in force in accordance with each of the company’s policies. Completed applications submitted along with the applicant’s personal check payable directly to the insurance company will be considered for coverage effective on the 1st of the following month, subject to approval.
This innovative plan is designed to help hundreds of temporary employees and contract workers establish relationships directly with insurance companies at affordable rates and better service.
