Graduate Admissions Office: Masters Degree in International Education

Application Requirements:

Grade point average. The undergraduate grade point average (UGPA) must be at least 3.0 in the last 60 semester hours of upper division undergraduate study (A = 4.0).
Graduate Admissions Application. This application is available from the FIU Office of Admissions. When completing the application enter the code for the Intercultural Studies in Education for the Master's Degree Program. A $25.00 non refundable fee must accompany the application. If applying for Master's Program, section 8 of the application must have Intercultural Studies in Education in the "Program/Major:" heading. If you are pursuing a Doctoral degree with a specialization in Intercultural Studies, the the program/major would be the corresponding program and in the "Specialization within major:" section you would enter Intercultural Studies in Education.
Transcripts. Official transcripts from all higher education institutions attended must be submitted the Office of Admissions, as described in the Application. Only official copies sent directly from institutions to the Office of Admissions are acceptable.
GRE Exam. All applicants must take a GRE exam and submit the scores to FIU. Request the Educational Testing Service (Princeton, NJ) to forward test results to the FIU Office of Admissions. GRE scores more than five years old may require re examination, depending on the policies of the University Graduate School. Only an official copy of the test score sent from ETS directly to the Office of Admissions is acceptable. Persons scoring less than 1,000 on the combined verbal and quantitative portions of the exam are required to take the exam a second time prior to being considered for admission.
The application to take the GRE is available from the FIU Office of Admissions. Generally, the examination is offered via computer numerous times a year in the Miami area, including FIU. Application must be received by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) by a specific due date in order to sit for a particular administration of the exam. Only the general aptitude portion (verbal, quantitative, and analytical) of the exam is required.
TOEFL Scores. Request the TOEFL Program to forward official test scores to the FIU Office of Admissions.
Letters of Recommendation. Two letters of recommendation are required. The letters should include at least one from a previous professor (preferably two) who can knowledgeably attest to your ability to perform adequately in advanced level coursework and complete sustained scholarly research with self discipline. Others may come from supervisors and similar individuals who can comment on your responsibilities, potentials, and other traits deemed significant to success in the Intercultural Studies in Education program. The letters should be sent to the Office if Advanced Graduate Study, College of Education. Professors within the Graduate Program in Intercultural Education do not write letters of recommendation on behalf of applicants since the Intercultural Education professors themselves are involved in the application decision process.
Résumé. A current résumé is required listing your appropriate professional, educational, and personal information. It should be sent to the Office of Advanced Graduate Study, College of Education.
Statement of Interest. This brief personal statement (approx. 250 words) should present your rationale for pursuing further studies in Intercultural Education. The statement of interest should address your experience and ambitions in the field of Intercultural Education, and how advanced graduate study could contribute to your current and projected responsibilities in the field. It also may include a projected topic area of possible interest for dissertation study and aspects of your personal and professional goals, experiences, and philosophy that contribute to the appropriateness of this program and this degree at this time. The statement should also be sent to the Office of Advanced Graduate Study, College of Education.
