In
addition to their exposure to the
esteemed faculty of the School of Music, students have the
opportunity to be included in workshops and master classes
conducted by distinguished outside guests. Many great
professionals, including George Crumb, Lukas Foss, Robert Craft,
Eddie Daniels, John de Lancie, Donald Erb, Richard Stoltzman,
Susan Starr, Dame Gillian Weir and Janet Bookspan to name a few
have interacted with the students on a regular basis. The star
studded faculty of artists at FIU includes such renowned
musicians/educators as: Violinist Robert Davidovici; The Miami
String Quartet, Pianist Kemal Gekic, Trumpeter Arturo Sandoval,
Composers Fredrick Kaufman and Orlando Jacinto Garcia, Conductor
Maestro Robert Stewart, Director of Wind Studies Roby George,
Director of Choral Studies John Augenblick, Director of Opera and
Vocal Studies Robert Dundas, Bass baritone Ed Pierson, and
numerous others in all areas of music.
Every year the School of Music presents a
number of festivals, including the FIU Festival of the Performing
Arts (17 concerts in 18 days), the New Music Miami Festival, and
the FIU Jazz Festival. During these events students interact with
professionals from every field of music. Our student and faculty
ensembles have toured throughout North and South America, have
been featured on cruise ships and have recorded with the finest
artists in the world. The FIU School of Music is one of the
fastest growing schools in the region. It is the school of the
future.
ABOUT THE MS PROGRAM
The
School of Music offers the Master of
Science in Music Education. The School also offers a Master of
Music in Composition, Conducting, Performance, Performing Arts
Production, Music Technology, and Jazz Performance. FIU is
accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
(SACS) and the School of Music is accredited by the National
Association of Schools of Music (NASM).
