Brief Description of the Program:

The Engineering Management program is directed towards an academic preparation of technical individuals who will remain working in a technological environment while advancing into management roles.

The emphasis on accuracy, the use of sound scientific methods, and the solution of technical problems through individual skills, are some functions for which engineers are well prepared. These functions fundamentally differ from managerial functions; thus, to become successful managers, most engineers must learn new skills and broaden their problem approach perspectives.

The Engineering Management program at FIU. develops technical management skills by combining qualitative approaches and quantitative skills in a balanced curriculum. This is a graduate program leading to a Master of Science degree. It emphasizes a practical, systematic, and programmatic educational environment, so that future managers of engineering and technology will be technically competent and business-practice oriented. It is also interdisciplinary degree program, which draws on the strengths of both the College of Engineering and Design and the College of Business Administration. One third of the Engineering Management curriculum is taken from the College of Business Administration, so as to provide access to its outstanding expertise and curricula.
