Brief Description of the Program:

        The field of electrical and computer engineering remains the most exciting and diversified field of study; a field that continues to permeate all aspects of our society and bring the most positive change to our way of life. The curriculum provides an emphasis toward engineering concepts and designs in the varied and rapidly expanding disciplines within the field of electrical and computer engineering. Students, with the counsel and guidance of faculty, student advisor, and graduate coordinator, choose their elective program around their own special interests from a broad range of electives in such fields as:
  • Circuits, Electronics and Electronic Materials;
  • Communications and Electromagnetics;
  • Computer Engineering;
  • Digital Signal Processing and Biomedical Electronics;
  • Power Systems;
  • Solid State Devices; and
  • Systems and Control.

        These study areas are supported by 12 research centers and laboratories and 9 teaching laboratories (see the provided list). Our faculty continuously seeks funding to advance their research interests, upgrade or create new labs, and provide support for our graduate and undergraduate students.

Application Requirements:

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution in engineering or related fields. A student whose degree is not in Electrical or Computer Engineering may require additional coursework..
  • A "B" average in upper level work and a combined score of 1000 or higher on the verbal and quantitative sections of the GRE.
  • GPA of at least 3.0 out of a possible 4.0 obtained in Bachelor of Electrical Engineering or Bachelor of Computer Engineering.
  • Up to 10% of applicants may be admitted as exceptions to the above requirements if the applicant shows other criteria for success in graduate study.
  • A non-degree-seeking student can take courses without being admitted to the University, in order to gain knowledge in a particular area of interest.
Students may be given conditional admission to the Graduate School to ascertain their ability to pursue graduate work successfully where previous grade records or Graduate Records Examination scores are on the borderline of acceptability. Students granted conditional admission will be notified by the department of the conditions under which they were admitted. When these conditions have been satisfied, the department will notify the student. Coursework taken while a student is in conditional status may be applied toward a graduate degree.

Additional Requirements for International Students:
  • TOEFL of at least 550 out of a possible 677 is required for non-English speaking students.
  • Foreign students are admitted as governed by the University admission rules and BOR rule 6c-609.
