Brief Description of the Program:
The
College of Engineering and Design offers an inter-disciplinary Master
of Science program in Environmental and Urban Systems, encompassing
urban and regional planning, neighborhoods, cities, metropolitan areas
and larger regions and their interface with natural systems with either
management, social or economic components. Particular emphasis will be
placed on environmental and transportation issues related to
tropical/sub-tropical areas.
The
program is recommended for all eligible candidates, specifically those
with non-engineering Bachelors or Masters degrees. Each candidate must
complete a core of, at least, eighteen (18) credit hours, including
six(6) hours of thesis or three (3) hours of the credit hours will
make-up a minor core of complementary courses in the social sciences,
natural science, engineering, business, management, public health or
public administration.

Application Requirements:
- A student seeking admission into Environmental
and Urban Systems graduate program, must have a bachelor’s degree
in environmental or urban systems, environmental studies, engineering,
architecture, social sciences, natural sciences, or a related field.
- All graduate applicants, regardless of previous
grade point average or degrees, are required to submit their GRE
(general) scores.
- An applicant must present either a "B" average
in upper level undergraduate work, or
- A combined score of 1000 or higher on the
verbal and quantitative sections of the Graduate Record Examination
(GRE), or
- A graduate degree from an accredited
institution.
- Three letters of recommendation in the forms
provided by the department.
- A statement of objective in which the intended
concentration must be clearly stated.
Additional Requirements for International Students:
- Foreign students seeking admission must have a
bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental
Engineering, or related engineering from an institution recognized in
its own country as preparing students for further study at the graduate
level.
- Foreign students must submit a TOEFL score of
500 or higher.
