Early Learning Coalition of Miami-Dade/Monroe

Evelio C. Torres serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Early Learning Coalition of Miami-Dade and Monroe counties in Florida.  The Early Learning Coalition of Miami-Dade/Monroe is a not-for-profit with a budget in excess of $160 million.  The Coalition is charged with establishing and improving early education programs for the more than 160,000 children from birth through age 5 in Miami-Dade and Monroe counties.  The coalition was incorporated in 2000 following the enactment of the School Readiness Act by the Florida Legislature, which consolidated the state’s early childhood education services into one integrated program of school readiness.

Prior to joining the Early Learning Coalition, Mr. Torres served as Senior Vice President for Kids Hope United, a private, not-for-profit human services agency.  While at Kids Hope United, Mr. Torres established services for the agency’s newest market in Miami-Dade County.  Under Mr. Torres’ leadership, the agency established and maintained a leading market position in fiscal and program performance and accountability.  Prior to joining Kids Hope United, Mr. Torres spent 20 years with the Florida Department of Children and Families in a number of leadership positions.  Mr. Torres’ experience includes providing leadership in child welfare programs, media/community relations, regulatory administration for early education and care settings and residential care.

Mr. Torres currently serves on the board of directors of the Alliance for Human Services and Neat Stuff.  Mr. Torres’ community involvement also includes helping at-risk and vulnerable youth and their families, and supporting charities through his work as a member of the Knights of Columbus, Coral Gables Council.

Mr. Torres holds a Master of Public Administration Degree from Florida International University (FIU) and currently teaches Public Administration and Public Relations as an adjunct instructor at FIU.
